I've heard of a few peoples 360 consoles getting the E74 error this past month. I find that kind of weird so I did some investigating....

E74: There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing an x-clamp replacement as it's a GPU over heating issue.

The E74 error code usually shows up several times at first when the console is turned on. Some people have been able to get around this by turning the console off and then back on and it boots up with no problems.

If the problem persists, call the Microsoft Support line, which can be reached in the US at 1-800-4-MY-XBOX (1-800-469-9269) to get a support ticket started. If your console is still under warranty DO NOT attempt to open it and fix it yourself. MS will fix it promptly and for free BUT if you open it you loose the free support.

I just got E74 error yesterday for the 2nd time in 2 years.... I hate microsoft....but i love xbox. Playing on my bros system now but wont have that for long.

Well you are in luck E74 is now covered under the 3 year warranty from Microsoft the same way the red ring is. So just call them up and they will email you a return stuicker you just need to arrange pick up and package the xbox to send it back and it will be sorted for you.
